University Worship
University Worship convenes each Sunday at 11:00 a.m. in Cannon Chapel during the academic school year. Worship is ecumenical and planned especially for the campus setting, providing a variety of worship experiences for the Emory community. Preachers include the university chaplains, Emory faculty, and distinguished guests from the U.S.A. and abroad.
Deacons
Emory undergraduate students serve as University Worship Deacons. Students participate in both the planning and the leadership of weekly services -- as speakers, readers, ushers, and musicians.
Choirs
In addition to the world class preachers, and active students, University Worship emphasizes the arts in worship proudly drawing upon the strengths of two choirs - The Cannon Chapel Choir and the Voices of Inner Strength Gospel Choir.
- The Cannon Chapel Choir is a volunteer group of singers. Drawn from Emory students and faculty, as well as from other members of the University Worship community, the Choir specializes in sixteenth- and twentieth-century unaccompanied choral music. Contact Ivan Maddox (404-727-6225)
- The Voices of Inner Strength Gospel Choir, Emory's Christ-centered and dynamic gospel choir, welcomes all who desire to praise the Lord with song, minister with His word, and lead souls to Christ. The VOIS choir of more than 40 members sings at University Worship the fourth Sunday of each month and participates in an annual service learning project in the continental U.S. or abroad during Spring Break. Also, the VOIS Choir sings in Churches around the Atlanta area as well as performs acts of community service. The Choir invites enthusiastic singers who want to join in their music ministry. Please contact Chonise Thomas, chonise.thomas@emory.edu, President of the VOIS Choir, or Maury Allums, Director of the Choir, mallums@learnlink.emory.edu.
