Fall 2008 – Spring 2009

The Emory Inter-Religious Council (IRC) is composed of students from different religious traditions dedicated to fulfilling the mission of the IRC:

The mission of the Emory University Inter-Religious Council is to foster inter-religious conversation and create a safe space for affirming one's own tradition while understanding the religious practices and beliefs of others. We seek to build bridges through service, education and dialogue to promote a mindset for living peacefully in the global community.

We are looking for students who are knowledgeable about their own faith tradition and interested in dialogue with members of other religions. Members should be strong communicators, as they will be representing themselves as well as their religious group or organization to the IRC. They will also be connecting the work and events of the IRC back to their religious group or organization.

Commitment to the IRC includes weekly meetings Monday from 5-6pm and additional activities throughout the academic year. Members are asked to serve for at least two consecutive semesters, though members usually are active until graduation.

We invite two types of applicants:

1- Students interested in inter-religious dialogue representing a recognized campus religious organization, with approval from the student group or campus ministry

2- Students interested in inter-religious dialogue not representing a campus religious organization, especially those with unique religious/spiritual backgrounds

Applications are due: Sunday April 13, 2008 at 6pm. Please submit applications to the “IRC APPLICATIONS 2008-2009” conference on LearnLink. Applicants will be notified via email of the IRC’s decision.

We highly encourage interested students to attend our open meeting at 5 pm on Monday, April 7, 2008. We will meet at Brooks Commons in Cannon Chapel.
