Compassion Meditation Group
Wednesdays, 5:00-6:00 p.m. Eastern, via Zoom
The Compassion Meditation Group includes people from across the University, from undergraduates and graduate students across schools, to faculty and staff, as well as friends in the local community. We gather each Wednesday -- currently virtually over Zoom due to the pandemic -- to cultivate presence and compassion for daily living using a range of mindfulness meditation practices.
Our format includes brief introductions, followed by a 30 minute guided practice, often led by Dr. Bobbi Patterson, Professor of Pedagogy in the Department of Religion at Emory University, as well as other trained teachers. After the practice, group members share and ask questions. Drawing from diverse traditions, our practices include focusing on the breath, noticing/allowing arising thoughts and emotions, walking meditation, body scans/progressive relaxation, and self-and-other-compassion practices, among others. Our practices are accessible to new and experienced meditators alike. Drop-ins are welcome, and no commitment is required.
